The key is good insulation moving the barriers that prevent insulation from working and using New Zealand's number 1 sustainable product Pinus Radiata in a panel system.
Like all good things this takes time.
At WINTEC we like to be involved with our partners and the community. With this in mind we have gone to our partners and asked them to help us to put this project together and they have.
At the end of the project the unit is to be auctioned and all profit from this will go to Hospice Waikato. The auction will be held at 3pm on Sunday 4th October at the Home Show.
The SHaC09 is located in the Outdoor Living Court (inside Gate 1 off Brooklyn Road).
To be auctioned at the Claudelands Events Centre at 3pm Sunday 4 October
Visitors to the 25th 2009 Waikato Home & Garden Show will have the chance to buy an awesome 60 square metre sustainable ancillary unit that is on site (near Gate 1 entrance).
The "SHaC09" sustainable ancillary unit is ideal as a support live-in housing facility for two people (as a separate building away from the main house) or as a place to live in while people are building their new home on a property.
The unit has been built from scratch under the watchful eye of Trevor Wyatt, Wintec’s programme manager of architectural technology, quantity surveying and construction management.
"It is completely and easily transportable and has a number of sustainable features incorporated into it," Trevor says.
These sustainable features include thermal break windows which significantly lessen heat loss from the building.
The building’s framing is designed to assist with thermal break.
“We expect the building to raise a considerable sum of money which will be donated to Hospice,” said Trevor.
The basic unit was moved on site at the Claudelands Events Centre in the early hours of Monday morning and the finishing touches are currently being undertaken.
Trevor acknowledges the support of a team of local businesses and trades people to make the unit happen for Hospice, a charity organisation which provides specialist care for people in the final stages of a terminal illness.
