Our story starts on a little dairy farm in Waharoa. As well as milking cows, we had a growing blueberry orchard – and like the milk, our blueberries left the farm gate for export and that was our job done for the day. We wanted to share the great taste of fresh export-quality produce, so we decided to hand-craft a product that the community could enjoy.
That is how Kowhai Creamery came to be.
In December 2015 we got to work on our hand-crafted ice cream, sourcing the milk from local Jersey cows fed on lush Waikato pastures, and combining it with our home-grown berries.
Just six months after churning our first batch of Kowhai Creamery ice cream we were award winners, taking home two silvers at the 2016 New Zealand Ice Cream Awards for our blueberry and salted caramel flavours.
Our passion for fresh, great quality produce and the love for our community is what gets us out of bed in the morning. They say it is the land of milk and honey, but now we say blueberries and ice cream.
